In the first 24 hours after treatment, the skin may appear slightly pink, and feel mildly dry and tight (similar to mild windburn).
To get the most out of your treatment, and to minimise the chances of any adverse reactions, it is important to adhere to the following aftercare advice.
Moisturise the Skin
As microdermabrasion gently removes the outermost layer of skin, it will temporarily be more susceptible to external aggressions (such as dry weather, pollutants, etc). It is therefore important to keep the skin regularly moisturised after treatment. This will help replenish the skin and prevent it from becoming dry and peeling.
For the first 48 hours it is recommended to use a simple, fragrance-free, and soothing moisturiser, and to avoid anything containing active ingredients, until the skin has settled down. We also recommend using a gentle cleanser for the week after microdermabrasion.
Avoid the Sun
When having microdermabrasion, it is important to avoid the sun for at least 48 hours, as the skin will be sensitive to the sun. It is recommended to wear an SPF 50 during courses of microdermabrasion treatments.
Avoid Exfoliation, Retinol, and Glycolics
After microdermabrasion, we recommend avoiding exfoliating the skin for the next 7 days, giving the skin time to recover from the treatment.
Microdermabrasion removes the outer layer of dead skin, exposing fresh and healthy skin cells. Exfoliating these can irritate the skin, and sometimes lead to hyperpigmentation.
General Advice:
For 24 hours - Avoid swimming, facial waxing, or fake tan application.
For 48 hours - Avoid saunas, sun beds, or sun exposure. Avoid strenuous activities. Avoid botox, collagen injections, or dermal fillers.
For 7 days -
Avoid AHA's, glycolics, retinol, or exfoliating products.
